Junior Management Accounts Assistant

A fantastic opportunity for someone looking to progress their legal finance career. My client is a London based law firm who are looking for a Junior Management Accountant to join their finance team. The role will predominantly involve dealing with the management accounts and budgeting.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly profit and loss account for each office and the firm as a whole
  • Discuss with the Management Accountant regarding necessary costs including audit, tax, business taxes and bad debt movements. Taking into account the differing requirements of each office
  • Detailed expenditure and variance analysis relating to both revenue and expenditure and reporting findings along with the P&L for the management pack
  • Catering income journals and recharges for internal purposes
  • Providing for corrected monthly expenditure across the firm in the form of accruals
  • Running monthly reports in-line with the profit & loss accounts and communicating with department heads to discuss/analyse actuals and budget
  • Monthly marketing reports to highlight any expenditure that may need to be reclassified
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual budget
  • Liaising with office heads, department and management to plan and prepare office budgets
  • Charting staff changes and office changes for the year ahead to ensure fee earner income and head count is profiled correctly
  • Profiling of budgeted income for the coming year using historical data and other factors and loading these budget profiles into the Aderant system
  • Consolidating all the office budgets into sterling
  • Working to strict deadlines and collating all information
  • Being prepared for the ever changing nature of the budgeting process and ensuring department/office heads and managements requirements are met in a timely manner

Key requirements:

  • AAT Level 3 qualified, or equivalent (or currently working towards this)
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Aderant and query reporting knowledge an advantage
  • Prioritising workloads, in accordance with time differences for international offices
  • Communication skills both verbally and written to all levels of staff firm wide
  • Data analysis and problem solving
  • Ability to work within a dynamic team, and be able to cover people in busy periods.
  • Attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Technical skills must include a good understanding of SRA Accounts Rule and VAT rules
  • Ability to take initiative working calmly with challenging deadlines
  • Willingness to work beyond core hours when required
  • Ability to take responsibility
  • Flexible and professional in attitude and approach to work
