Senior Revenue Controller

I am delighted to be partnered with a top US law firm in their search for a Senior Revenue Controller to join their London office. This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Revenue controller looking for a step up to a senior role.

Day duties of the role include:

  • Ensure matters are billed as soon as commercially viable and in line with fee arrangements to maximise recovery and meet WIP cycle targets
  • Manage work-in-progress balances by monitoring WIP levels against original quotes and alerting Partners/Matter Managers to potential overruns
  • Collaborate with Partners, Matter Managers, PAs, and the Business Manager to drive timely billing of matters
  • Provide clients with regular fee updates and flag any out-of-scope work
  • Liaise with clients regarding billing details and requirements to avoid unnecessary bill reversals
  • Chase clients for outstanding billing details, such as PO numbers
  • Initiate new ideas to enhance client relationships by proactively contacting clients about billing requirements, adding value to the relationship
  • Act as a key contact for the eBilling team and attend regular update meetings
  • Identify potential problem areas and escalate issues to the Revenue Manager, including reviewing eBills in broker systems
  • Support Partners and Matter Managers by working closely with the Credit Controller to chase debts in line with payment terms
  • Influence fee earners to meet cash targets through regular one-to-one meetings reviewing debtor lists and cash pledge data
  • Manage expectations around cash inflow through regular updates to the Revenue Manager and direct client communication
  • Attend prayer meetings to share best practices in matter management, including guidance on billing services and available reports
  • Drive improvements in financial hygiene aligned with the firm's Net Investment objectives

You will need experience in:

  • Confident and professional when engaging directly with clients
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Skilled at building a network of internal contacts across departments
  • Previous experience in a legal practice, ideally within a top ten law firm
  • In-depth understanding of the billing process within a law firm
  • Detailed understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • General understanding of IT and finance systems
  • Uses commercial insight to enhance influence when working with Partners and clients
