Billing Team Leader
I am delighted to be partnered with an exceptional law firm in their search for a Billing Team Lead to join their London office. The reports into the Billing Manager and supervises a team of 7 experienced billers.
Day duties of the role:
- Lead special projects as needed.
- Analyse and maintain client/matter data.
- Review Work In Progress (WIP) and Accounts Receivable (AR); arrange review meetings.
- Work on special assignments and analysis.
- Generate and report on monthly, quarterly, and yearly data.
- Participate in weekly management meetings to discuss billing issues and projects.
- Update comments for Finance Committee and Partner reports.
- Attend Partner meetings to discuss invoices and collections strategy.
- Resolve complex billing questions and discrepancies.
- Draft and finalise bills; perform billing duties for assigned Partners.
- Review and maintain client fee structures, rate changes, and invoices for compliance.
- Ensure staff follow procedures, address performance issues.
- Participate in interviews and staff evaluations; administer disciplinary actions per Firm policy.
- Supervise and train Billing Coordinators; manage daily activities, assign tasks, oversee processes, and resolve issues.
The right candidate will need experience in:
- High level of proficiency with Elite 3E required.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules.
- Understanding or experience of billing in foreign currency and associated issues.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to track, measure, and manage performance.
- Can organise, prioritise, plan, and multi-task work activities, meeting deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to all work situations and varied hours.
- Must effectively coach, mentor, and train others to meet performance expectations.
- 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Meet and discuss team requirements regularly with London management.
- Mentor and train new Billing Coordinators as directed.
- Capable of organising cover for other members' work during their absence.
- Guide and share knowledge of working practices with the team.
