Accounting Manager - Outsourcing and VAT

Ambition working with a Top 50 accountancy practice in Central London who are currently seeking an Accounting Manager - Outsourcing & VAT to join their business services department. As you may expect with a mid-tier accountancy firm there is opportunity for progression and development, as well as working with a prestigious client base.

A top 50 accountancy firm who have a strong reputation within their niche client base, have offices throughout in Central London and offer flexible working policies.

The Role:

The Accounting Manager will run the Outsourcing and VAT offereing and will be responsible for providing leadership to the team, managing a portfolio of clients, and supporting Partners. This includes planning, monitoring, reviewing work of junior members and taking responsibility for business development and marketing initiatives. Duties will include but not be limited to:


Manager Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Managing and leading a team of 10 staff - Qualified and Part Qualified staff
  • Working knowledge of all VAT schemes
  • Ability to support staff with VAT technical queries and advising clients, including Brexit changes.
  • Job allocation on a monthly and adhoc basis.
  • Experience of managing a client portfolio.
  • Attend client meetings.

Management Accounting


  • Prepare management accounts from information and documentation received from clients, ensuring that all relevant deadlines are met.
  • Complete each assignment as far as possible before passing to the manager for review.

Client Relations


  • Develop and maintain good client relations
  • Liaise with clients directly or through relevant manager to resolve queries or obtain further information
  • Ensure a high level of service to meet clients' expectations
  • Ensure that all hours worked on assignments are correctly recorded.

Bookkeeping


  • Undertake bookkeeping, inputting data, for a variety of clients as allocated by the line manager.
  • Bookkeeping to final TB. This would involve understanding the year end process, entering opening and closing balances for adjusted trial balance.
  • Able to calculate and post accruals and prepayments, depreciation and other year end journals.
  • Maintain a full and accurate audit trail by filing and referencing documents in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to accounting standards
  • Meet deadlines and time budgets
  • Setting up clients on Xero and dealing with conversion balances

The Candidate

The successful candidate must be qualified with demonstrable knowledge of managing staff and running a team/department within a top 20 accountancy practice. In addition, candidates will need to be able clearly demonstrate:


  • ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified
  • Proficient user of Xero including ability to design Xero reports and devise innovative. solutions to uncommon bookkeeping issues
  • Excellent knowledge of Sage, QuickBooks and VT
  • Organised and methodical
  • Client focused
  • Carrying out tasks with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy
  • Organisation/time management
  • Ability to work under own initiative with little or no supervision
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure
  • Experience of working with teams
  • Able to commute into London
