Through the interview, I really felt a sense of the team and the collaboration.

Why did you choose to join Ambition?

I was a recruiter previously, so this was my second recruitment job. I was really keen to join a market specialist and somebody with a really great brand in their space. I really liked Ambition’s external brand, I really liked that they were very niche and specialist.

How is Ambition different from other recruitment agencies you've worked at?

The support you get internally from the Corporate Services team. So, we've got a great Marketing team, we've got a fantastic Head of Operations that supports on tech and process and platform. And I think just the investment around people and process, versus other agencies that I've worked at, is definitely far superior. So, definitely that support.

What does a typical day look like for you as a senior recruitment consultant?

There probably aren't two days that are exactly the same, but as a bit of a rule of thumb, it's usually candidate calls, client calls. I like to do a couple of meetings each time I'm in the city, so it might be a coffee with an old candidate or a meeting with a new client at their offices. Or it could be a placement lunch, which is so lovely to go and celebrate with the people that we support.

And within that, I'll probably be filming some content with Gaya (Marketing Executive) too, and being able to get a bit creative on that side of things.

So, lots of interaction with my network and also lots of fun with the team. Usually quite a lot of chats and nattering about what people have got on, where they need support. That would be a classic day.

What's the training and development like?

We've had some external providers come in and do some really amazing workshops, and that has been so beneficial for client meetings, for difficult situations, for pitching - things like that have really, really helped.

I've also done the mental health first aid training, which was amazing. And yeah, found out loads about how to support my colleagues in that space. So, definitely lots, and it's all there for the taking. You just kind of have to put your hand up for it, I'd say.

Why did you choose to get involved in Ambition's Allyship, Belonging and Inclusion committee?

It's a personal interest. It's a bit of a passion for me. I think everybody deserves to have the same opportunity, no matter what characteristics, what background, what ethnicity. I think it should be a level playing field.

What do you enjoy most about working at Ambition?

What I enjoy the most about working with Ambition is getting out and about to meet with my network as much as possible in person. So, going to clients’ offices, going to meet candidates for coffees, going for lunches. It's just so nice to see the people in person, to build those relationships, and to really get under the skin of the people that we support day in, day out.

But also to increase your market insight, figure out what different firms are doing, what are the trends. It's just such a valuable way to learn more.

So, that is definitely my favourite thing - those touchpoints with the people that we work with.
