Spotlight on Marguerite Clooney, BD & Marketing Principal Consultant

Back to Blogs

How has your career progressed since you first joined Ambition?

I joined Ambition as a consultant in 2005 after living and working in Sydney for 2 years.

I worked my way up through the ranks to Manager of the BD & Marketing temp team.  However, after returning from maternity leave, I decided to focus on a pure billing role instead and have been a Principal Consultant ever since - always staying within my specialist area of temporary and contract BD and Marketing.

What has changed in the years that you have worked here?

When I first started, we were spread out over two floors and did financial services recruitment as well. Now we are all on the same floor and only focus on Professional Services, which allows us to be more specialist.  The offices also look better now – post refurb!

What moments in your time at Ambition stand out to you?

Winning temp consultant of the year for the last 2 years was a personal highlight.  I am also really proud of my teammates who I have seen start their careers as juniors and who have now progressed through the ranks to become really successful senior consultants and managers.

What is your favourite thing about working for Ambition?

Great people. We have a really good culture, an upbeat environment and a very supportive team who genuinely care about their clients and candidates and all want to succeed as a team and company (as well as individually).

I am also proud that my team has become the largest (and definitely the best!) legal BD and Marketing team in London.  We also take a lot of pride in the feedback we get from our candidates and clients and of course in the fantastic referrals that this brings.

I also like the drinks trolley on Friday afternoons!

Are there any valuable lessons you have learned in your recruitment career that you could share?

Persistence and the ability to always bounce back is key (even when you have months or quarters that aren’t so good).

I have learnt that if you stay positive and keep chipping away then things will usually turn out for the better!

What is the best piece of leadership advice you have received throughout your career?

Don’t underestimate the power of face to face meetings and keep in regular contact with your clients and candidates as this will always keep you ahead of your competitors who may not hold (the above) in the same regard.

Do you have any predictions for the future of Ambition?

That we will continue to be the best company in our respective areas and will continue to grow organically by hiring more, high quality people!
