Political and economic uncertainty played a significant part in the UK M&A marketplace in 2019. Despite a relatively robust H1 in which public M&A deal volume hit a five year high with a £26.4bn aggregate deal value, the frustration for many corporate financiers last year was the time it took to get deals completed. Scrutinised due diligence and fluctuating business valuations prolonged many deals as a high percentage fell over at the last few hurdles. That said, certain sectors did manage to ride the wave with a decent number of deals completed in Media & Telecommunications, IT & Tech, Professional Services, Healthcare and Leisure & Tourism.
