Working Capital Manager

We are working with one of our law firm clients in the search for their new Working Capital Manager, to lead a high-performing team and spearhead initiatives that transform working capital management within a leading law firm.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this pivotal role heads up a team of 27 professionals across their three UK offices (London being the head office) You'll oversee all aspects of billing, e-billing, and credit control, including international offices, while delivering strategic projects to support the firm's ambition to become a tech-enabled law firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the firm's working capital strategy, reducing lock-up and improving end-to-end billing and credit control processes.
  • Build strong relationships with partners to ensure timely billing and debt collection aligned with agreed targets.
  • Chair the Finance Committee and contribute to the Data Governance Committee, influencing firm-wide compliance and risk management.
  • Maximise use of the firm's e-billing hub and ensure adherence to policies.
  • Collaborate with external agencies for debt recovery and manage operational issues with practical solutions.
  • Lead quarterly reporting routines, including progress against strategic objectives and lock-up targets.
  • Oversee charge-out rate setting, including annual reviews.
  • Manage and develop a large team, supported by Credit Control, Billing, and E-Billing Managers.
  • Review and optimise billing workflows and e-billing system integration.
  • Develop alternative billing approaches for non-standard services.
  • Standardise rate structures and enhance financial reporting.
  • Explore new credit control solutions and improve finance training for partners and fee earners.

About You

  • Proven experience in working capital management, billing, and credit control within a law firm or wider professional services environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing large teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Tech-savvy with a track record of delivering process improvements and system integrations.
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on problem-solving ability.
