Working Capital Manager

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Working Capital Manager heads up a team of 27 staff across their three UK office. You'll be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Revenue, billing, e-billing, and credit control, including overseas offices. Supported by a Credit Control Manager, Billing Manager, and E-Billing Manager, this role is heavily project-based to drive the firm's aspiration to become a tech-enabled law firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead working capital management initiatives to reduce lock-up, including end-to-end billing and credit control processes.
  • Build strong relationships with partners to ensure timely billing and debt collection, meeting agreed targets and timetables.
  • Chair the Finance Committee (monthly) to review exposure, set credit limits, and assess process changes.
  • Participate in the Data Governance Committee (quarterly) to review compliance and risk-related data.
  • Ensure regular billing patterns and adherence to special arrangements.
  • Maximise use of the e-billing hub and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Liaise with external debt collection agencies for problematic debt.
  • Oversee operational issues, liaising with the finance systems team as needed.
  • Contribute to quarterly reporting routines, including progress against strategic objectives and lock-up targets.
  • Lead annual charge-out rate reviews and manage historic rate assessments.
  • Manage and develop the team, including appraisals and recruitment.
  • Drive current and future projects, such as billing workflow reviews, e-billing hub integration, alternative billing approaches, and credit control process optimisation.

Current Projects Include:

  • Billing workflow review and cyclical improvement.
  • E-Billing hub review and system integration.
  • Alternative billing approaches for non-standard services.
  • Rate structure consistency across the firm.
  • Enhanced reporting for lock-up and financial management decisions.

Experience needed:

  • Solid Working Capital/ Revenue Management experience in a law firm or wider professional services firm
  • Evidence of project management exposure and broader operational responsibilities
  • Strong team management and leadership skills
