Financial Controller

We have partnered with one of our long-standing, growing law firm clients in supporting them with the hire of a new Financial Controller. My client is a highly successful boutique law firm that delivers exceptional financial performance and handles significant complexity for its size. With around 20 partners and a turnover approaching £100m, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic, ambitious business services team.

This is a pivotal role reporting directly to the Director of Finance, with responsibility for overseeing all aspects of financial control and operational finance and providing strategic support to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
  • Take ownership of a broad remit covering financial control, reporting, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly management accounts, annual statutory accounts, and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage partner accounting, payroll across multiple jurisdictions, and working capital performance.
  • Act as a trusted business partner to senior stakeholders (partners, fee earners and head of business services), contributing to strategic initiatives, investment cases, and business planning.
  • Drive improvements in systems, processes, and financial controls, including involvement in finance-related projects and system upgrades.
  • Provide insight and analysis to support decision-making at the highest level, attending and presenting at management and partner meetings.

Experience needed:

  • Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Significant post-qualification experience within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of LLP accounting and financial management.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with finance and practice management systems.
