Finance Manager
A leading US law firm are seeking a Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of its UK office. This is a high-impact role offering broad exposure across the business, with close collaboration between teams in London, Europe, and the US.
This is a broad finance manager role with the opportunity to support on budgeting, systems and process development and FP&A, given capacity. Applicants will need to have a good handle of UK tax, and preferably some international tax. They have quite a lot of independent responsibility to deal with tax for UK and two of their European office and given there is a lot of change in this space, some knowledge of this would be hugely beneficial. (Global tax is handled from the US so applicants need to be experienced but not an expert).
There is a small team in UK who have responsibility for two of their European offices and there might need to be occasional travel to the US and one of their office in Germany. The firm are looking for increased collaboration with the revenue/billing team, with the US global team, the team in Germany and the partners so this is something the Finance Manager would be heavily involved in.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day finance operations including general ledger, accounts payable, and treasury (including client funds).
- Deliver accurate monthly financial results, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting processes for the UK office.
- Oversee cash flow, VAT submissions, and annual partnership tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with UK regulatory requirements, including Solicitors' Accounts Rules.
- Drive improvements in financial systems and internal controls.
- Mentor and develop a small local finance team.
- Liaise with external tax advisors and global finance stakeholders.
- Provide insightful financial analysis and ad hoc reporting to senior leadership.
About You
- ACA (or equivalent) qualified accountant with a degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in finance in a law firm
- Strong technical accounting knowledge; familiarity with UK partnership tax is a plus.
- Proven experience managing or leading a team.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Proficiency in financial systems such as Elite 3E (or similar) and advanced Excel skills; Power BI experience is advantageous.
