About the Role

The Donor Grant team audits funds provided by major donors, including the UK Government, EU, and foreign agencies. This role requires on-site audits around the world, with international travel limited to no more than 2 weeks per month. Audits are scheduled to ensure you are back for the weekend. Responsibilities

The firm is part of several consortia holding framework contracts to audit grant funding awarded to various global organisations on behalf of International Donors, including:

  • Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) of the European Commission, auditing grant funding for global development aid.
  • United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), auditing their implementing partners worldwide.
  • United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), auditing directly implemented projects globally under a long-term agreement.
  • Education, Culture and Audiovisual Executive Agency (EACEA), also covering the Executive Agency for SMEs (EASME) and Innovative Networks Executive Agency (INEA).
  • Directorate-General for Budget, covering various themes.
  • Swedish Embassies in various countries.
  • Various other contracts with International Donors such as FCDO, the UN, etc.

These contracts involve auditing grants awarded to organisations typically operating in international development, humanitarian aid, research, and culture. Assignments occur either within Europe or globally, depending on where the funding is delivered or where the supporting records are kept.

Role Expectations

The successful candidate will:

  • Undertake audit assignments in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America throughout the year, usually for 1 to 2 weeks per trip.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time, with the remainder spent in the London office planning future audits and writing audit reports.
  • Report to managers, directors, and partners, delivering fully drafted audit reports and complete sets of working papers.
  • Remotely manage local auditors in locations where travel is not possible, ensuring effective audit work and proper briefing and training of local teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning audit assignments, including preparing a planning memorandum and sample selection.
  • Organising logistics for onsite assignments.
  • Attending all required meetings, both internally and with the Donor and Auditee.
  • Preparing working papers.
  • Drafting reports and associated annexes.
  • Ensuring all reports are delivered to clients within the contractual deadline.
  • Managing all correspondence with the Donor and Auditee as required for the assignment.
  • Being available for follow-up queries or requests during or after the assignment.
  • Contributing to business development and marketing.
  • Supporting other members of the NFP audit team to ensure audits are completed within contractual deadlines.

Additionally, if the firm wins similar assignments from other international donors or implementing organisations (e.g., NGOs or International Organisations, IOs), the role may expand to incorporate such new work as deemed appropriate and necessary.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience leading audits from planning to completion.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK as NO sponsorship can be provided for this role.
  • A keen interest in specialising in the not-for-profit and grant sectors.
  • ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent) would be preferred
  • Previous experience with donor grant audit would be beneficial however this is not essential.
  • Demonstrating a genuine interest in the sector as well as a willingness to learn is just as important.

Language skills

  • Fluent English required.
  • Knowledge of French, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic would be advantageous
    Any other languages would be a bonus (both European and non-European).
