Commercial Finance Manager

Ambition has partnered with one of our London-based law firms who deliver full-service legal solutions across corporate, litigation, and property sectors, in the search for a commercially astute and analytically driven Commercial Finance Manager to join their Finance team.

This is a pivotal role supporting both legal practice areas and business services teams. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders, including partners and fee earners, to provide financial insight, challenge assumptions, and drive performance across the firm.

About the Role

As a key member of the Commercial Finance team, you'll collaborate with the Head of Finance and a Commercial Finance Analyst to deliver high-impact financial analysis, performance reporting, and strategic support. You'll play a central role in enhancing profitability, rolling out pricing tools, and embedding a strong commercial mindset across the business.

This is a front-facing role that blends deep financial analysis with stakeholder engagement. You'll be expected to interpret complex data, communicate key insights clearly, and influence decision-making at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with Heads of Department, Finance Partners, and the wider partnership to enhance financial understanding and performance
• Lead and evolve the firm's business partnering function alongside the Head of Finance and Commercial Finance Analyst
• Deliver training sessions to partners and fee earners on financial concepts and profit drivers
• Streamline and enhance performance reporting, focusing on key financial KPIs
• Prepare and present monthly performance reports with insightful commentary
• Analyse financial trends and provide actionable recommendations to improve outcomes
• Support the rollout of a pricing tool and governance structure for pricing control
• Contribute to the budgeting process through revenue modelling and capacity planning

About You

• 5+ years' experience in a commercially focused finance role, ideally within legal or professional services
• CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
• Advanced Excel skills, including financial modelling, pivot tables, and OLAP tools
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends and key insights
• Experience with reporting platforms and pricing tools is a plus
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders
• Confident, proactive, and comfortable challenging assumptions and influencing decisions
• A collaborative team player who can also work independently and mentor others
• Professional, polished, and able to inspire confidence across all levels of the firm
