Business Development Manager - Retail & Consumer

I'm working with a progressive international law firm that is investing heavily in its Retail & Consumer (R&C) sector. With a strong portfolio of big‑brand clients and a rapidly expanding market footprint, the firm is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to help drive the next phase of its growth.

Working closely with senior sector leaders and partners, you'll play a central role in setting and delivering sector strategy, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring momentum across key UK and international markets. This is a hands‑on role where you'll collaborate across marketing, communications, bids and aligned sectors to shape commercially focused BD activity and support the firm's wider expansion plans.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead on sector planning, helping shape the international strategy and drafting the UK country plan, then taking responsibility for delivery.
  • Drive pipeline development and support new client wins, working alongside bids and new business teams.
  • Strengthen existing client relationships through cross‑selling, internationalisation and improved client mix.
  • Raise the sector's profile in high‑growth market segments and manage BD activity aligned to emerging market developments.
  • Work with marketing and service line teams to shape legal solutions that reflect client and market needs.
  • Build collaborative relationships across sectors, particularly where overlaps support new opportunities (e.g., technology, media and communications).
  • Lead internal sector communications and engagement to support alignment, momentum and effective coordination.

About You

You'll bring strong relationship‑building skills, commercial judgement and a track record of delivering growth in a professional services environment. You'll be comfortable leading initiatives, navigating complex stakeholders and using market insight to shape plans and recommendations. The ability to work collaboratively and adopt a solutions‑focused approach is essential.
