Business Development Manager (12 month FTC)

An international law firm with a global footprint seeks an experienced Business Development Manager to lead its Africa practice. The role centres on shaping and executing the firm's Africa strategy, driving growth across key markets, and strengthening its position as a leading adviser on complex, cross‑border matters.

The Role
The Africa Business Development Manager will work closely with the firm's Africa Group leadership and cross‑functional teams to:

  • Develop and implement market and client strategies across the region.
  • Drive client development, opportunity spotting, and cross‑practice collaboration.
  • Oversee profile‑raising activity, flagship events, and brand initiatives.
  • Provide market intelligence, sector insights, and trend analysis to inform business decisions.
  • Support high‑impact client meetings, pitches and cross‑office opportunities.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders across government, industry, and finance.
  • Ensure best‑practice delivery of marketing materials, directories and awards submissions.

About the Firm's Africa Work
The firm operates one of the longest‑standing and most highly ranked Africa practices, advising corporates, investors, lenders, development institutions and governments across the continent. Its teams deliver coordinated advice across capital markets, banking, corporate, project finance, energy & infrastructure, structured finance and disputes.

What They're Looking For

  • Significant business development experience in professional services, ideally with regional focus.
  • Proven ability to create and execute strategic BD and marketing initiatives.
  • Strong communication, relationship‑building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and market intelligence platforms such as Mergermarket.
  • Degree in business, marketing, law or related field; MBA preferred.
