Commercial Finance Accountant

This law firm are looking for a commercially minded Commercial Finance Accountant to join a growing finance team based in Tunbridge Wells. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in driving financial performance, providing insightful analysis, and partnering with senior stakeholders across the business. This is the first Commercial Finance role in the role which makes this incredibly exciting.

You'll work closely with practice groups and leadership teams to support profitability, pricing decisions, and overall financial performance-helping turn financial data into meaningful commercial actions.

Key Responsibilities as the Commercial Finance Accountant

Business Partnering & Commercial Insight

  • Act as a trusted finance contact for senior stakeholders and operational teams
  • Provide insight, challenge, and support to improve profitability and performance
  • Translate financial data into clear, actionable recommendations

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyse revenue, margin, and profitability across departments, clients, and projects
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to inform decision-making
  • Produce high-quality reports, dashboards, and commentary

Forecasting & Budgeting

  • Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and reforecasts
  • Monitor performance against plans and highlight key variances
  • Provide forward-looking analysis to support planning and resourcing decisions

Pricing & Commercial Support

  • Assist with pricing proposals and financial modelling
  • Analyse profitability of key clients and business areas
  • Support tenders, bids, and broader commercial initiatives

Working Capital & Revenue Oversight

  • Monitor WIP, billing, debtors, and cash collection performance
  • Identify risks to revenue conversion and take action to improve outcomes
  • Work collaboratively to strengthen cash flow and financial discipline

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and performance metrics
  • Contribute to initiatives that enhance pricing, matter management, and decision-making
  • Support cross-team collaboration within finance

To be successful in this Commercial Finance Accountant role

Qualifications

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified (or strong part-qualified candidates will be considered)

Experience & Skills

  • Experience in commercial finance, FP&A, management reporting, or business partnering
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling capability (advanced Excel essential)
  • Comfortable working with and influencing non-finance stakeholders
  • Experience in professional services is an advantage
  • Understanding of revenue, profitability, forecasting, and working capital
