Legal Finance Operations Market Insights - Q2 2026

Back to Blogs

The legal finance operational space has remained busy throughout Q1, with hiring activity across a range of areas. Key demand has been within legal billing and revenue functions. As we move into Q2, we are seeing a strong flow of new roles across the market, which shows no signs of slowing down and makes it an excellent time to consider a move.

Revenue and billing roles continue to dominate the roles in legal finance operations….

Hiring trends over the past 18 months have placed a strong emphasis on Revenue and Billing roles across London, and this has continued into Q1. Demand for experienced Revenue Controllers who are looking to broaden their remit and step up into a pure WIP management and business‑partnering role remains extremely high.

As a result, we have also seen a shift in responsibilities within the revenue space, with billing duties increasingly falling to junior billers and sole billers. This, in turn, allows Revenue Controllers to focus more heavily on WIP management.

This has, in turn, driven an increase in legal billing roles coming to market in Q1, with firms looking to hire experienced legal billers who can manage complex bills and high volumes. With this in mind, it is a great time to be looking for a role in revenue or billing.

Legal Cashiering roles have come to market a lot more recently, particularly those with an office account focus……

Legal Cashiering roles have historically seen a steady flow of opportunities from quarter to quarter. During Q1, there was a slight hiring push in February for experienced Legal Cashiers looking to specialise in office‑account roles. The main driver behind this has been firms recruiting office cashiers to support and provide cover for the accounts payable function.

Moving into Q2, we have continued to see strong demand in this space, making it an excellent time to consider a move within the Legal Cashiering market.

Credit Control and e-billing roles have been quieter than expected in Q1…..

With Q1 being the final quarter of the financial year, it is typically a busier period for Credit Control, as UK‑headquartered firms approaching year‑end look to hire Credit Controllers to support cash collection. However, we did not see this trend happen in Q1 this year. The main reason for this appears to be that many UK firms have diversified their Revenue Controller roles to encompass credit control responsibilities, particularly at year‑end, to provide additional support.

E‑billing activity also slowed during Q1. Following a significant hiring boom in e‑billing throughout 2024, we have not seen a comparable pick‑up in roles this year, largely due to the level of senior hiring already done in this space. That said, with upcoming e‑invoicing changes being introduced across Europe, we do anticipate increased hiring activity in this area towards the latter part of the year.

What we expect going into Q2…..

Moving into Q2, we typically see a quieter April due to many firms reaching their year‑end, followed by an influx of roles in May and June once year‑end processes are complete. The areas we expect to be particularly busy within finance operations are Revenue Control and Credit Control, largely driven by firms identifying the need for additional support following a demanding year‑end period.

Overall, Q2 is traditionally a busy time for recruitment, with many firms looking to hire ahead of the summer months. This makes it an excellent time to consider a move. If you’re looking for a new role or are hiring into your team, please do reach out — we’d be happy to help.
