IES: Those seeking accountancy jobs may benefit from govt scheme

1 February 2010 15:10

A new government initiative could help those seeking accountancy jobs and other positions to gain employment, an expert has observed.

The Care First Careers scheme was announced last week and will see employers given an incentive of £1,000 for taking on a young person struggling to find work.

It is designed to ensure anyone aged 18 to 24 who has been looking for a job for six months gets an offer, work experience or training.

And Becci Newton of the Institute for Employment Studies commented that it could be beneficial for both businesses and potential workers if a match with someone interested in gaining skills and experience is made.

She listed a number of likely plus points, which included "widening young people's horizons, offering them valuable work experience and opportunities to develop their skills [and] offering them a sense of engagement with their communities".

Ms Newton went on to suggest that organisations may need further support to help boost employment levels.
