Accountancy job seekers 'may benefit from apprenticeships'

2 February 2010 15:26

Those looking for employment in accountancy jobs may wish to consider an apprenticeship, as an expert has suggested that such opportunities are often overlooked.

According to Craig Abrahart, operations director at notgoingtouni.co.uk, many Britons do not realise they can earn money while training.

"We are trying to show people that there is much more to vocational training than the normal types of apprenticeship you would think of," he said, adding that it can be a "terrific" means of starting a career.

Mr Abrahart noted that that 80 per cent of apprentices ultimately end up in a full-time position, advising anyone considering the route to carry out thorough research.

The specialist's comments came as National Apprenticeship Week got underway in the UK, with the government aiming to highlight the benefits in terms of career progression and the chance to learn new skills.

Launching the initiative, business minister Pat McFadden observed that many companies are planning to increase hiring this year.
