Gender pay gap among those with accountancy jobs 'should be tackled faster'

More of an effort needs to be made in order to speed up the closing of the pay gap among men and women in accountancy jobs, it has been said.
The World Association of Women Entrepreneurs claimed that the discrepancy between men and women's wages is still "reasonably wide" and that any progression towards parity should be carried out as quickly as possible.
"It has just really been a matter of slowly fighting one's way towards a narrowing. The progress should be faster, in my opinion - but women work differently to men. They don't necessarily wish to do quite so many hours," said Tatjana Hine, vice-president of the group.
She added that it may take 30 years for equality with regards to pay to become apparent in the UK, but that will require continued pressure on authorities and businesses to demand an end to discrimination.
The National Equality Panel recently claimed that the large growth in inequality in the 1980s is still affecting employees today, although there has been a slight narrowing of the gender pay gap over the past decade.
