Tax job seekers may welcome IES prediction

The Institute for Employment Studies (IES) has said that the fall in unemployment was to be expected and that the number of tax jobs being offered will continue to rise.
Thomas Usher, research fellow at IES, claimed that Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures showing a drop in joblessness of 7,000 in the three months to November 2009 were not as shocking as some analysts have made out.
"We've been looking at the figures on people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance for a few months. Those have been declining already and they are slightly more up-to-date figures," the expert explained.
He added that although the recovery will continue, it will do so at a slow rate due to the excess staff companies already have in preparation to deal with any pick up in production or services demand.
The Department for Work and Pensions recently said that unemployment is now down 450,000 on Budget predictions, thanks to its investment in education, training and jobs support.
