Jobseekers of the future 'need better advice'

24 November 2009 15:38

School pupils who will be seeking employment in the future, possibly including jobs in London, need better advice.

This is according to Sue Fieldman, regional editor of the Good Schools Guide, who said that teachers are not necessarily geared up for the current economic environment and may therefore be issuing out-of-date information.

She said: "They are very traditional, or have been over the years, in their career choices for their pupils."

The "world has moved on" and the UK is operating in an entirely different economic climate now than it was five years ago, Ms Fieldman added.

According to the expert, industry should work closely with schools to provide them with information about what companies are looking for from job candidates.

Her comments were made after a report was released by Teach First suggesting that better careers advice should be made available to youngsters going through the UK's education system.
