Employees 'may have more flexibility due to recession'

Employees, including those with marketing jobs may have more flexibility as a result of the recession, it has been claimed.

According to Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, firms have been looking to reduce their expenditure since the onset of the economic crisis and have consequently been more open to new working practices.

He remarked: "More and more businesses have been looking to see how they can save money and of course one of the ways they can do that is by introducing what we call smarter working."

The expert went on to predict that companies will not simply retract such opportunities when they come out of the financial problems but rather will have seen the benefits and will continue to offer flexible working.

His comments follow the release of a report by the Confederation of British Industry, which suggested that the downturn may have been a catalyst for a new era of business.
