CBI survey is "good news for recruiters"

17 November 2009 14:58

The latest survey from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), which revealed that the number of businesses implementing recruitment freezes is to drop over the next 12 months, has been described as "good news for recruiters" of accountancy jobs and others by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

Director of research with the REC Roger Tweedy made this statement, saying that "positive signs" are being seen in employer confidence, although "it is still very early days".

He added that recruiters will play an integral role in helping businesses in the UK make preparations for the upturn and those in the industry must continue to work on a research agenda to track such trends.

This will "promote the added value of using recruitment agencies to meet increasing demand for new staff," Mr Tweedy went on to say.

The CBI study also found that fewer firms consider extreme cost-controlling methods to be currently necessary, although deputy director general of the body John Cridland observed pay will continue to be "squeezed" for the foreseeable future.
