Recruitment 'picking up again'

16 November 2009 16:36

Recruitment freezes may soon be reversed, a new study has shown, news which may be of interest to those looking for accountancy jobs and others.

According to the survey conducted by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the number of employers currently operating such measures has dropped from 61 per cent to 37 per cent, in part due to the freeing up of various parts of the organisation.

And it was also seen that fewer firms believe that the need for extreme cost-controlling methods that were witnessed at the start of the year is still there.

However, deputy director general of the CBI John Cridland remarked that market conditions will continue to be tough in 2010, with feeble growth, meaning that "pay is going to be squeezed for some time to come".

These figures follow the quarterly Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development/KPMG Labour Market Outlook survey, which found that the employment market in the UK is showing positive signs of improvement.
