Flexible working 'offered at FTSE 100 firms'

The majority of companies listed on the FTSE 100 index, including those with workers doing
marketing jobs, were providing their staff with flexible working opportunities even before they were required to legally.
That's according to a new study by ntl:Telewest Businesses, which found that more than two-thirds (69 per cent) of firms allowed their staff to take part in flexible working schemes before the law changed on April 6th of this year.
At that time, the government extended the right to request flexible working from parents with children under the age of six to parents with children under the age of 16.
Andrew McGrath, commercial director at by ntl:Telewest Businesses, said: "Companies under financial pressure can find it difficult to keep their staff motivated and loyal, especially if wages and bonuses are frozen, but taking action to help them strike a better work-life balance can help remedy this."
Flexible working can include home working, reduced or flexi-hours, part-time work and job share programmes.
