IT skills 'vital for all jobs'
19 June 2009 16:44
People looking for
accountancy jobs or any other type of employment must make sure their IT skills are up to scratch, it has been claimed.
Karen Price, chief executive of not-for-profit organisation e-skills UK, made the claim following the publication of the government's Digital Britain report.
The paper laid out the future of IT in the UK - but Ms Price suggested that some of it has a bearing on all types of employment.
"Everyone needs IT skills; they have become as essential as the ability to read, write and understand basic mathematics," she explained, citing research from e-skills UK that showed 90 per cent of all new jobs require "some level" of IT knowledge.
"Recently announced government reforms, along with pioneering programmes led by organisations such as e-skills UK, are designed to help both young people and adults to develop such skills," she added.
The Digital Britain report also laid out plans to provide universal broadband in the UK and announced a shake-up of BBC funding.
