Overseas investment creates jobs in Scotland

Jobs in Scotland have been created and safeguarded by foreign investment, new research shows.
Investment from overseas has helped create and safeguard almost 4,000 positions, including
banking jobs, first minister Alex Salmond has said.
Results from Scottish Development International (SDI) during the last financial year show that international firms have invested £500 million in the country.
The money has led to the creation and safeguarding of 4,000 jobs, including 2,000 high-value roles.
Mr Salmond said: "Scotland has a strong competitive edge as a place to do business. SDI's job is to ensure that organisations and investors around the globe are fully aware of all we have to offer.
"These results, continued growth and investment in the midst of a global economic recession, prove that SDI is doing an outstanding job for Scotland."
Further findings show that despite the impact of the global recession, 75 per cent of Scotland's labour force continues to be in employment.
The SDI was originally created in 2001 to attract more foreign direct investment into Scotland.
