London workers to be hit by Tube strike

9 June 2009 14:15

Millions of workers in London, including those doing banking jobs in the City, will be left without transport if a planned Tube strike goes ahead.

Members of the RMT trade union are to walk out from 18:59 BST on June 9th until 18:58 BST on June 11th.

The industrial action has been called after talks over pay and jobs broke down between London Underground management and the union.

Workers and visitors in the capital will still be able to use DLR services, London Overground trains and buses.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "It is quite simply outrageous for the leadership of the RMT to ask their members, the majority of whom did not vote for this strike, to take part in this ludicrous and unnecessary disruption to our city."

Commuters are being encouraged to visit the Transport for London website to find out about alternative routes into work over the next two days.
