Language skills 'essential for graduates'
8 June 2009 08:28
Graduates are missing out on employment opportunities at an international level because of a lack of language skills.
That's according to Kathryn Board, chief executive of CILT, the National Centre for Languages, who explained that knowing additional languages makes people more employable.
She added that language skills boost "economic prosperity" and are also essential for the future success and competitiveness of the UK.
"During the current economic crisis it is more important than ever for our young people to learn languages to improve their employability and enable them to compete internationally with multilingual counterparts from across the world," Ms Board said.
"Without language skills it will be increasingly difficult to regain our strong economic position in the world."
The government recently published a guide for graduates, including those interested in
accountancy jobs, which contained information on international opportunities.
