Graduates 'should apply for jobs early'
3 June 2009 13:12
Sending applications for graduate jobs sooner rather than later boost university-leavers' chances of securing suitable employment.
That's according to Sarah Shillingdon, graduate recruitment partner at Deloitte, who explained in the Times that it is never too early for young people to think about applying for work.
She added that the jobs market is not "hopeless" and that her organisation is still planning to hire up to 1,000 graduates in the coming year.
"For those in their first and second year at university who may be fearful of the future, do not wait until the final year to start the process," Ms Shillingdon advised.
"Often companies assess candidates on a first-come, first-served basis. The first candidates to apply, pass the assessments and hit the benchmarks are offered a role."
Deloitte offers employment opportunities in more than 30 disciplines, including a large number of
tax jobs.
