Working over Christmas 'receives co-worker criticism'
13 January 2009 15:06
More than three quarters (77 per cent) of workers feel that their colleagues who worked over the Christmas period were being 'martyrs' or a 'Scrooge', new research has suggested.
The study by business psychology firm OPP found that 24 per cent of workers, including those doing
accountancy jobs, thought that those who went to the office over the festive period were workaholics.
Meanwhile, one in five thought employees who did so did not have a life outside of work, HR Magazine reports.
Lucy McGee, head of marketing at OPP, told the publication: "It's OK to enjoy your work. Having a positive relationship with your job is often a basic prerequisite if you're to perform to the best of your abilities in the workplace and realise your wider potential."
A Post Office survey conducted just before the festive period last year found that the most cited reason for working over Christmas was to roll over holidays to 2009.
