Learning new skills makes people feel good, says study

People learning new skills receive a boost to their happiness and confidence which can improve their workplace productivity, a new report suggests.
According to research by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), eight out of ten people indicate feeling happier and more confident after learning a new skill.
Moreover, 85 per cent of people working in
banking jobs in Londonbelieve that improving their skill-base also makes them better prepared to face workplace challenges.
Chris Banks, chairman of LSC, said that "not only does research show that gaining a new qualification can increase your annual income by £2,000 to £3,000, but learning will also improve your confidence and the way you feel about yourself".
"It's about taking the future into our hands and improving ourselves and with so many ways to learn, there's something to suit everyone," he added.
Equally, the study indicated that training can also have a positive impact on people's love life as around a quarter of respondents found a lasting relationship while on a course.
